Many will identify with this
story of doing things one's own way. Mama duck paddles
along and 3 of her babies follow behind in orderly fashion.
But, one contrary little duckling "dawdles and dreams". He
"preens and plays/dunks and dips/splashes and spins" ...always
dawdling until a crocodile appears. Bezzeo's even tempo,
upbeat text matches Spengler's illustrations which contain soft
edges, brilliant color, and a dreamy quality. A sequel to
this reassuring tale of "youthful rebellion and parental
protection" will be published soon.
